About Habitat for Humanity of Grant County

Most Habitat houses have 3 bedrooms, 1 1/2 bathrooms and are approximately 1,050 sq. feet in size.  It currently costs about $65,000 to build these homes, even with volunteer labor.  Habitat houses are not given away.  Houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with a no-interest mortgage payable to Habitat - enabling the purchase of more materials for new homes.  Habitat partner families contribute 300 - 500 hours of "sweat equity" working on their houses.  This establishes pride of personal investment and ownership.  Families are carefully evaluated before selection.  In addition to obvious need, families must demonstrate responsibility and a willingness to partner with Habitat.

Sponsorships for Habitat houses are available.  A sponsorship allows businesses within Grant County to partner with Habitat for Humanity, while gaining ample publicity.  Sponsors are also able to determine which house they want to sponsor by choosing from the lots that will be built on that year.  To be considered a house sponsor, a minimum donation of $25,000 is required.  Sponsors many times help build the house and work along with the family to make a dream home.  The total cost of a house is approximately $65,000.  The house is sold to the family interest free over a period of 20-30 years.
